D&S to Remove Cuba, Venezuela Products for Wal-Mart

By James Attwood - DF Reports - Jan. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Chile's Distribucion y Servicio D&S SA, the subject of a takeover bid by Wal-Mart Stores Inc., will stop selling products from countries that have diplomatic conflicts with the U.S., Diario Financiero reported. D&S's Lider supermarket chain will remove 42 items from countries including Venezuela, Cuba and Iran, the Santiago-based newspaper wrote today, citing a Dec. 31 e-mail to staff. Bentonville, Arkansas-based Wal-Mart, the world's biggest retailer, last week began an offer to buy D&S in a deal valued at $2.66 billion in what would be its biggest acquisition in Latin America. Wal-Mart representatives didn't immediately respond to e-mail requests for comment.
