An Eloquent Speech

By Juan José Herrera - As I listened to President Barack Obama´s inaugural speech, I automatically saw the intellect of a man who expresses himself similarly to the late President Abraham Lincoln´s speech in his famous “Gettysburg Address”. The ability to pronounce such florid words also reminded me of the late US Congressman Everett Dirksen, who was during the years of my youth a rebirth of Daniel Webster. My admiration for his intellect of pronouncing such well coordinated thoughts proves once again the ability to communicate well his ideas and projects, not only to the American People, but also to the world at large. His message was clear enough to anyone who understands his words, especially the annexed quote directed to the tyrants at large in Latin America, which was an indirect message to Hugo Chavez. While President Obama spoke, Chavez was beating up university students who dissent on an amendment that will perpetuate him in power with continuous presidential elections, and by firing tear gas grenades and the use of high power water jets on the dissenting students. The following quote is also a beautiful metaphor. “To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West: Know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.” Needless to say, his speech planted hope, not only on American soil, but outside US Borders who see President Obama as a new leader of the world and a guide to world peace and prosperity. His task is monumental, since there is much backlog on what has to be done and on what it should have been done by his predecessor. I am sure, just like many millions of people around the world that he will make good on his promises.
